In his write-ups, he critically evaluated disease patterns, technological breakthroughs, socio-economic issues in disease management and the impact of changed lifestyle on the health of Indians. He also led a team of writers/editors to produce the edition, besides supervising the entire gamut of operations pertaining to content management, manpower planning, designing and sourcing news and feature stories. An outstanding achievement in journalism came for Amitabh when he was picked up as one of the top seven healthcare journalists of the world to be with Bill Gates and Melinda Gates in their Indian sub-continent tour during 2007. He travelled with them in India and Bangladesh for three days and wrote extensively on myriad issues of HIV/ AIDS, besides gaining a unique insight into the minds of the eminent leaders.Advancing his interest in advocacy and policy issues, Amitabh forayed into the corporate sector in 2008 and joined MSD Pharmaceuticals as the Head of Healthcare Advocacy. The same year, he was picked up by GlaxoSmithKline to head their Government Affairs function. This opportunity helped Amitabh hone his technical skills and learn the operational aspects of the function, including matters relating to pricing, trade, exports and governement outreach programs for vaccines. At GSK, the moment of reckoning came for Amitabh when he could gain advance knowledge of formulation of the National Vaccination Policy. Together with the local and above country teams, he played a major role in providing technical inputs to the policy and ensured that the key issues of the MNC were duly recognised in the policy. Amitabh joined Abbott Healthcare as the Director for Government Affairs in April 2012, and drivesadvocacy strategies for the company on important industry issues. He plays a dominant role in various industry associations, heading the CII committee on Price Controls and being a committee member at OPPI. He also leverages his media expertise and experience to guide company and industry strategies. He has expertise in matters at DoP, NPPA, DCGI, Finance Ministry, Health and Commerce Ministries.
