INBA organized a webinar on Challenges for Legal & Consulting Firms on June 11, 2020 to help them tackle with the ongoing COVID-19 situation with great patience and deep thoughts. The Webinar started with the Welcome note by Mr. Kaviraj Singh, Secretary General, INBA. Hon’ble Justice Pratibha M Singh, Judge, Delhi High Court was the Guest of Honour for the day. Hon’ble Justice Singh spoke high about INBA and inspired the online audience by her productive and informative words asking the Legal and Consulting Firms to be focused and things would improve gradually. She said, “Today the courts are working only with minimum capacity taking only important cases. I had approx. 40 cases to deal with in a day earlier, now I take up only 10 cases but then this is how things are working. We have not stopped, and we would grow. The only thing required is positiveness”.
The Webinar provided insights on various issues, viz., impact of COVID-19 on businesses of consulting law firms, E-filing, e-drafting, e-courts, How to get clientele? How law firms can prepare for success in the COVID-19 era? Boutique Firms, do they have the infrastructure to adopt new modules?
Keynote Speaker, was Mr. Sarosh Zaiwalla, Senior Partner and Founder, Zaiwalla & Co. The other distinguished speakers were Mr. Ajay Upadhyay, Partner, KPMG, Mr. Rajinder Singh, Managing Partner, Lex Jurists and Mr. Satyajit Gupta, Head of India Legal, EXL Services.
Mr. Sarosh Zaiwalla, Senior Partner and Founder, Zaiwalla & Co. said that, “Lawyers profession is not meant for popularity but to bring justice. Be competent and be firm and you would have your way”. Mr. Ajay Upadhyay, Partner, KPMG, said, “Businesses of consulting law firms are adversely effected today, but gradually things would get into shape. Cyber Crime frauds are on rise as more and more people are working from their home arena, so we are finding ways how to improve on it”. Mr. Rajinder Singh, Managing Partner, Lex Jurists and advocate Supreme Court, who is a good orator, participating in various conferences as a moderator/ speaker and has extensive experience in criminal litigation. He said, “ law firms are trying to cope up with the situation. We at Lex Jurists are trying to retain our employees and this is how I think they would be able to maintain the employer-employee trust and work with great force and strength when the courts start working in full swing”. Mr. Satyajit Gupta, Head of India Legal, EXL Services said, “ Indian economy has faced a deep crunch. We have to find ways how to deal with this crisis”.
The Webinar proceeded further with Q&A session wherein various issues were taken up to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and focus on expanding businesses, to be more technical and tech savvy. The Webinar concluded with vote of thanks by INBA to Hon’ble Justice Singh, and all learned speakers and audience.
